A unique lodge in a remote British Columbia valley

Aerial view of Grizzly Bear Ranch
Grizzly Bear Ranch was built in the mid 1990s.

The land was cleared and the stands of timber cut down used in its construction.

Reflecting the different local woods available, the main house is built from douglas fir, and the four guest cabins, from fir, hemlock and cedar.

"A honeymoon dream come true. We couldn't have asked for anything more." Keith and Cathy Jennings, Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Upgraded cabins and personal touches

In late 2005 Julius and Kristin bought the 32 acre property on a prayer and a loan.

When they arrived, after a gruelling cross-Canada drive, they were met with six feet of snow.

Since then they have been converting the property to a model of eco-friendly practice.

Environmental responsibility

Because the ranch is so remote, it is far from the power grid.

In a bid to be as environmentally responsible as possible, we run the ranch on power produced by a new solar installation.

We have a well which gives clean, fresh water. We have replaced the appliances we inherited with new, ecologically-friendly equivalents to minimise our environmental footprint.

Modern conveniences

Despite our location, we have all the conveniences of modern life. Each cabin has powerful hot-and-cold showers, flushing toilets, a DVD player to watch wildlife documentaries and other movies and we provide guests with a selection of cold and hot drinks at their convenience.
